5 Tips for Painting Closets

Posted on January 20, 2022

Our team at CertaPro Painters® of Grand Haven has completed countless interior painting projects over the years and there is always one area of the home that gets overlooked: the closets. Many people forget about painting their closets or just don’t care. Although, painting your closets may be the least of your concerns when it comes to the aesthetic of your home… they are important! Well painted and correctly painted closet spaces really help to pull the entire home together. It is also important to make sure the paint you choose is optimal for what a closet is designed for… finding things! Here are 5 tips to help make your closets as functional as possible.

    1. Asses what paint is already in your closest. For example, if there is a darker shade of paint, you will need to have the walls primed before painting begins.
    2. Consider bright colors. Closets are a place you can be a little more adventurous when it comes to paint color. Bright colors help open up a space and make it look larger than it actually is.
    3.  It will also make it easier to see what is in the closet.
    4. Choose the right shade of paint. For example, if the closet you want to paint is in a bedroom and the bedroom is painted navy blue, use a lighter shade of blue inside the closet.
    5. No dark shades. It is already hard to find things within a closet, painting it a dark shade will make it even harder.
    6. Consider the paint finish. Satin paint is the best option for closets. This is because it doesn’t show marks easily and it easy to clean.
    7. Get creative. Use the closest space as a place to be bold. If have been wanting to try out a bright paint color but are afraid to take the leap in a main area of the home, try it in the closet first.
