Project Overview
In March 2026, CertaPro Painters® of Fort Collins completed a specialized interior wood restoration and millwork refinishing project for a regional water authority administrative facility in Berthoud, Colorado. The five-day project focused on restoring the appearance and integrity of extensive wood surfaces within a prominent board room and common gathering area while maintaining normal facility operations.
The scope included custom white oak millwork fabrication and installation, window casement restoration, dustless surface preparation, stain matching, and protective clear-coat application. Because the facility remained occupied throughout the project, minimizing disruption while delivering a high-quality finish was a critical priority.
CHALLENGES:
Over time, the wood finishes throughout the board room and common areas had begun showing noticeable signs of age and moisture-related deterioration. Water staining and surface oxidation had dulled the original appearance of the wood paneling, creating inconsistent coloration across the room. In addition, two windows had sustained extensive damage to their oak casements and returns, requiring replacement rather than refinishing.
The project also included repairs to a curved architectural bulkhead, which required custom-fabricated white oak pieces designed to match the existing radius and panel dimensions. Achieving a seamless appearance between new and existing materials required both precision carpentry and experienced stain matching. Complicating the project further, all work needed to be completed within an active professional environment where dust, noise, and disruption had to be carefully managed.

TECHNICAL SPECIFICATIONS
Custom Millwork Restoration
Special-order white oak components were sourced for damaged bulkhead sections. Each piece was custom cut on-site to match the existing curved architectural profile and panel widths. Following installation, the new millwork was stained and blended to match the surrounding wood finishes.
Window Casement Restoration
Two damaged window openings received new white oak casements and window returns on all four sides. The replacement components restored both the appearance and functionality of the affected areas.
Window Sealing
Clear caulk was applied as needed to fully seal gaps between window frames and wood trim assemblies across all ten windows in the space. Existing blinds were carefully removed prior to work and reinstalled upon completion.
Dustless Surface Preparation
A commercial-grade Festool sanding and HEPA extraction system was utilized throughout preparation. This approach minimized dust migration, reduced airborne particles, and supported uninterrupted use of surrounding areas during the project.
