In March 2026, CertaPro Painters® of Fort Collins completed a commercial interior painting project at a business facility in Longmont, Colorado. The project focused on three interior feature walls, including two newly installed drywall surfaces and one previously painted wall.
Because the project involved both new and existing substrates, each wall required a tailored preparation and coating approach to achieve the specified finish. Challenges

Two of the three walls consisted of newly installed drywall. Unlike previously painted surfaces, new drywall is highly porous and absorbs paint unevenly if not properly sealed. This becomes especially important when applying deep, saturated colors such as black, where inconsistent absorption can lead to visible flashing, uneven coverage, and poor color uniformity.
The client’s design called for a rich black finish that would appear smooth and consistent across all wall surfaces. Achieving that result required a preparation process specifically designed for new drywall rather than a standard paint application.
