CertaPro Painters of Northern Colorado partnered with Colorado State University Athletics to restore the West Concourse, Level 2 at Canvas Stadium. The scope of the project covered a high-traffic, high-visibility fan corridor spanning concrete masonry unit (CMU) block walls, columns, entry doors, and door frames throughout the concourse.
Facility Description
Canvas Stadium is the home of Colorado State University Athletics, located in Fort Collins, the anchor city of Larimer County and Northern Colorado. The West Concourse serves thousands of fans on game days, connecting concession areas, corridors, and gate access points. CertaPro Painters regularly supports commercial and institutional properties across the surrounding Northern Colorado communities, including Loveland, Windsor, Greeley, and the Longmont corridor.
About the Project
Condition before project:
The previously painted white CMU block throughout the concourse showed years of accumulated grease, grime, and stubborn debris from heavy foot traffic and concession activity. Several sections of CMU block had bare or exposed masonry where prior coatings had failed, along with cracking that needed repair, and caulking around doors and joints had begun to fail in multiple locations.
What did the project involve:
- Full power washing of all included concourse surfaces, supplemented by hand washing to remove stubborn grease and debris
- Crack filling and spot priming of bare CMU block
- Recaulking of failed or cracked joints around doors and openings
- Masking and protection of flooring, signage, murals, and store facades throughout the concourse
- Coating of CMU block walls, columns, soffits, and both the interior and exterior facing sides of entry doors and frames
Special challenges:
Crews worked carefully around extensive concourse signage, murals, and storefront facades that needed to remain untouched, requiring precise masking throughout the corridor. CertaPro Painters upgraded the primer and topcoat systems as a courtesy to ensure long-term durability. Work was also scheduled with shoulder-season temperature guidelines in mind, ensuring paint was only applied within manufacturer-approved temperature windows to protect cure quality.
