When to paint?

Industrial warehouses and facilities often expose the walls and floors to more abuse. The spaces experience a much higher rate of wear and tear than a home or restaurant.

Colors are Off

Even without complete failure, paint will tell you it’s time. The colors fading are a slower indication that it’s time to consider a paint job. The pigments naturally lose color over time, and this can be further leached by UV rays, chemicals and usage.

Visible Deterioration

Paint on floors and walls will quickly show you it’s time to repaint. Look for signs of failure like cracking, peeling, bubbling or missing paint. Any of these imperfections are a sign the paint is failing and no longer protecting the substrate below. Once these show up, moisture is being permitted to get into the walls and cause bigger, more expensive problems.

Floors

The majority of warehouses use floor coatings to create safe and slip resistant surfaces. They are usually used in conjunction with line striping to:
Improve aesthetic.
Protect substrates from chemical, mechanical and environmental problems.
Promote a safe work environment with floor markings.
Organize and label areas of the warehouse permanently.

Wear and tear on floors is going to occur. If there is efflorescence, cracking and concrete spalling, it’s time for a new coating.

Exterior

Exterior surfaces fail just as easily and often as interiors. While there is less wear and tear, temperatures and precipitation can cause a mess of your paint. For exteriors, flaking, fading, peeling, cracking and efflorescence are all signs you need paint to protect the building. Addressing these problems quickly protects your building before moisture gets under the paint. What starts as cosmetic issues can quickly become very costly repairs.

Water

Maintaining a watertight coating keeps your substrate safe from water damage that can lead to costly repairs. Your paint is the first line of defense in keeping moisture out. When water sits against the walls or floors of a building, fungus, mold and algae can develop. The only way to address these problems is to repair the intrusion and add a new, pristine coating of paint.

Rust

One issue more particular to warehouses is rust. With so many metal elements, rust can occur where paint has failed. Metal siding, railings, shelving and stairs are all prone to rusting due to wear and tear and water intrusion.
