In December of 2021, CertaPro Painters was contacted by this homeowner for a custom interior painting project involving drywall repair and knockdown texturing removal. PROJECT INVOLVEMENT:
1. Custom Estimate Process
The homeowner had a very specific vision for his home. This included the installation of chair rail molding, the removal of wainscoting in the dining room, and complete erasure of the California Knockdown texturing style across all interior walls.
2. Drywall Preparation
All surfaces were originally covered in a California knockdown textured and had to be sanded, skimmed, and floated in order to smooth them over before priming and painting could occur. Several passes of drywall mud trowling were required. This created quite a mess at times. Due to our crew’s diligent preparation and daily clean-up processes, the rooms remained in pristine condition throughout the project. During this process, the Job Site Supervisor used a Festool to safely sand the broad surfaces while eliminating dust and other irregularities.
3. Wainscoting Removal
The Dining Room & Kitchen featured wainscoting that the homeowner wished to remove. Doing so revealed large areas of drywall damage previously covered up. Our Job Site Supervisor handled this unexpected issue with ease.
4. Installation of Chair Rail
The Exercise Room & Craft Room of the house each required an installation of chair rail moliding as per the client’s specifications.
5. Custom Paint Job
After a thorough color consultation, we were finally ready to paint! With the wainscoting and knockdown texturing firmly dealt with, our team could finally prime and paint this custom project to match the favorite sports teams of the owner. It was a long process, but the results speak for themselves!
CHALLENGES:
Chair rails had to be installed in the exercise room and craft room. Chair rail molding is a type of decorative trim or molding that is typically installed horizontally around the perimeter of a room, usually at the height of a chair back, which is about 32 to 36 inches from the floor.
Due to the foyers tall walls and tight space required scaffolding and precision ladder moves to effectively sand, float, prime, and paint walls.
In the basement, the customer requested a square theme pattern that required a laser level to mark plumb lines.
