Peeling Paint Needed An Upgrade

We were contracted to paint the exterior of the Sun Chemical industrial building in Cincinnati. The front of the building acts as offices, but the majority is a manufacturing facility with shipping docks on one side.

The building was dirty and the paint was extremely faded. The metal siding and caps hadn’t been painted and were rusted, chalky and faded. The building needed an upgrade. One of the painted windows in front was discolored with a buildup of dirt. The main entrance had painted brick that was peeling.

A Multi-Step Process

The process started by pressure washing or hand cleaning the entire building to remove all dirt and debris. The prep work involved hand scraping any loose paint. The rusted areas of the metal siding were wire brushed.

We then needed to spot prime all of the bare and rusted surfaces with appropriate primer. We caulked all previously caulked open seams, cracks and voids with silicone, paintable primer caulk around the surfaces that were being painted.

One challenge was using a wire brush on the rusted areas of the metal siding exterior. We needed to make sure the areas were prepped enough to absorb the primer and paint two coats of paint to preserve the area.

On To The Painting

Once all prep work was complete we applied two finish coatings to these areas: block wall, concrete wall panels, metal siding, metal caps, gray strips in front brick, man doors, and entrance awning.
