About the Project:
What city and state did the project take place in: Sharonville, OH
When did the project take place?: August, 2022
How long did the project take, start to finish?: One Week
Description of Project: The carports are covered outdoor parking spaces. The bottoms of the metal beams were mostly beginning to fail. They were rusty as well. In addition, the concrete support was beginning to fall apart. Some of the damaged beams were repaired or replaced, and the corroded beams were painted.
Project Involvement: The project involved metalwork from our carpentry division. We removed six posts that were rusted out on the bottom by cutting out the blacktop around the post and digging out the existing concrete. We then laid new concrete and tapered the concrete so water would flow away from the posts. The top was then sealed.
A damaged fascia on one of the carports was also replaced. After finishing the metalwork, we painted the rusty posts. To get the paint to stick to the posts, we had to first use a wire brush to remove the pre-existing rust. Once the prep was complete, we painted the posts and used two coats where necessary.
Special Challenges: We had to remove all of the failing concrete and posts, then set new concrete so the new posts could set. We also had to seal the areas so no moisture would fill them.
Special Techniques: Prep work on the rusted beams needed to be done properly so the paint would set in to the areas.
