CertaPro Painters® of Cincinnati recently completed the demolition and reconstruction of an exterior set of stairs that provide access to an upper parking garage at a condominium in Cincinnati, OH. The project involved removing the old, deteriorated stairs and replacing them with a new, structurally sound, and aesthetically pleasing set of stairs. Description of Project: The concrete stairs leading to the parking lot were declared unsafe and unfit for use due to severe deterioration, crumbling, and disintegration in multiple areas. Some sections lacked metal handrails, necessitating the installation of temporary wooden handrails for limited support.
Project Involvement: The project involved a demo of the existing concrete stairs and the building and installation of a new stair unit. Once installed, the stairs were stained. We started by demoing the current concrete stairs with heavy machinery, removing all existing concrete, the sidewalk landing, and railings.
We then built and installed a new pressure-treated stair unit. Once the stairs were in place, we built the handrail. Because of the demo, we poured a new concrete sidewalk extension up to the new stair unit on the bottom and top.
Special Challenges: Before the work started, we had to obtain the necessary building permits. Furthermore, access to electricity was essential for operating the machinery, and water was required for working with the new concrete. Additionally, special machinery had to be rented specifically for demolishing the old stairs. In addition, we undertook the task of framing and pouring a new sidewalk that led up to the newly constructed stairs.
