Exterior Carpentry Repairs & Staining Project

The home we were contracted to do carpentry repairs and paint/stain is a beautiful cabin style home set off Mt. Carmel road. It has all wood siding including on the two car garage. It also has a large wrap around deck with a gazebo, including a balcony off the one side of the home. Because it is an all wood home, it had lost most of its original color. Also, some of the siding needed to be repaired or replaced. Some of the decking was also failing: loose or rotted boards that needed to be fastened or replaced.

The project involved carpentry work, exterior painting and staining.

More About this Project:

The project started with carpentry. On the left side of the home we replaced 100 linear feet of siding and replaced 15 linear feet of fascia boards. We also put a finish on the end of the fascia to look clean and have a finished look.

We replaced all of the siding on the right side of the garage which was about 130 linear feet, and replaced all of the trim boards between windows.

On the back steps of the deck, we installed a new 4×4 post and set in concrete to support and secure the steps, resecured any loose stair treads, installed blocking under each stair tread, resecured the handrail, and installed two brackets at the top of support beams and deck boards to secure.

We removed and replaced the top board of the deck handrail. We also secured all of the handrail spindles.

Once the carpentry work was completed we prepped for painting by caulking all previously caulked areas, sanded and scraped any necessary areas, and pressure washed to remove all dirt, mildew and debris.

After the prep was complete we started on the exterior painting. We painted/stained two coats on the garage and home the same as the current color. We used two coats of a different color on the deck and balisters. Lastly, we stained the gazebo with two coats of the current color.

Due to the home being all wood, it required extensive carpentry repairs which had to be done before any painting occurred. The wood replacement then had to be prepped for painting differently than the current wood pieces.
