A Charming Home

This brick home in Union, KY featured charming green accents across the exterior. The color of the brick was faded as with the paint on the accents. There was also some minor carpentry damage to certain areas. The project involved some light carpentry work, prep work and painting.

If you are painting brick, all prep work must be done properly. It was be sprayed, then washed with a cleaner. This helps the surface accept the paint easier and let it soak in. Since there were so many different surfaces being painted with multiple colors and products, our crew had to pay close attention to detail on what the homeowner requested in the contract.

Before

A Thorough Painting Process

Once all minor carpentry work was completed, we prepped all surface areas to be painted. This involved pressure washing to remove dirt and/or mildew so the finish coat could adhere to surface, caulked all previously caulked areas (windows, doors, wood joints) to seal, scraped all loose peeling paint to ensure a firm base and then lightly sanded these areas. We also had to prep the brick to be painted by washing it with a TSP cleaner (heavy duty cleaner used prior to painting).

Two coats were applied to the following areas with a satin finish: detached garage, porch ceiling, shed, pool house, downspouts, gutters, soffits, fascia boards, doors, door frames, garage doors, columns, lattice, cupolas, decorative trim, bay windows and all previously painted wood trim.

A primer and two coats were also applied to the windows and window sills with a satin finish.
