Every home seller is looking to increase their curb appeal. WiFi lights, Nest thermostat and crown molding are not necessary to give you the edge in the housing market. All you need is to paint your front door this color: black.

According to Zillow a black or dark grey front door raises the value of your home up to $6,271. The study was based on the photos of more than 135,000 listing country-wide.

Experts report that the project is a small cost to owners, and a big reward at the closing table. Realtor.com said this is the sure way to get an offer on the table quickly. They also claim buyers will see your house as serious, stately and a safe choice. They say the top two colors to paint your front door are Peppercorn and Tricorn Black.

Beyond the front door upgrade, HGTV says exterior improvements can give the seller a return on investment of up to 95%.

While black doors are en vogue, be cautious before going overboard with paint. Zillow says red kitchens can cost the seller $2,300 on their sale price.

Some interior colors are tried and true. Taupe living rooms add $2,800 over white and light blue bathrooms bring nearly as much to the table.
