Racquet Club of Philadelphia Locker Room Painting Project

The problem to be solved:

The locker room inside the Racquet Club of Philadelphia is 130 years old and was in need of a fresh coat of paint. We needed to fix age-old plaster cracks on the walls and ceilings. The entire locker room needed a full paint job, including the trim, walls, and ceilings.

Inside the locker room is high-quality walnut lockers as well as priceless artwork and plaques which needed to be handled with great care. We had to ensure we didn’t damage or get paint on anything!

Problem solver solution:

We first identified what areas took priority by working with the Club’s General Manager. Once we had a list of what took high priority, we broke it down into what times of day our painting crews could get the work done.

We used small space scaffolding to work around the priceless pieces and covered the walnut lockers and other furniture with tarps.

Final result:

We completed sanding, filling cracks, painting the walls, trim, and ceilings within two weeks in December 2020, all while preserving the unique space!

Fun Fact: This locker room was in a scene of the movie “Philadephia” featuring Tom Hanks! Not your average locker room!
