The DIY Interior Color Poster Test
Instead of painting color swatches on the wall, you could try this effective technique instead. Get a poster or piece of cardboard that is at least 1’x1’ and paint that with 2 coats of your desired color. Then you can move the poster around the house to see the color in different rooms, and in different lights. This technique will also prevent you from having a rough edge/outline from putting too much paint directly onto your wall for a sample.
As an alternative, you can order large sample swatches directly from paint stores and have them delivered to your home. However, be sure to keep in mind that sample paint is NOT the same as the high-quality paint we use when painting local homes and businesses. While the color in the paint sample is the same, the sheen is likely different so it can give a slightly varied appearance in different lights. This is why it is so important to check your paint color in different rooms and at different times of the day!
