Multi-Phase Industrial Interior Painting — Longmont, Colorado
A Case Study by CertaPro Painters® of Boulder and Longmont
Refreshing an Active Warehouse in Boulder County
In February 2026, CertaPro Painters® of Boulder and Longmont completed a multi-phase interior painting project at an active industrial and technology facility in Longmont, Colorado. Located along the US-287 corridor between Boulder and Fort Collins, Longmont has become a key hub for advanced manufacturing, aerospace, and technology companies throughout Northern Colorado.
The project involved refreshing warehouse interiors, structural elements, and customer-facing entry areas within a large-bay industrial building. Because the facility remained fully operational during the project, the work required careful coordination, thorough protection of sensitive equipment, and phased scheduling to maintain a safe and efficient working environment.

PROJECT SCOPE:
The project included interior painting throughout warehouse bays, structural steel posts, lower concrete wall sections, and the facility’s customer entry areas. Doors, trim, and window trim were also repainted to create a consistent finish across both operational and visitor-facing spaces.
Surface preparation was performed across all phases of the project and included removal of dust, cobwebs, and debris; spot scraping of peeling coatings; degreasing of contaminated areas; and light scuff sanding on glossy surfaces to ensure proper adhesion. Bare or damaged areas were spot primed as needed using Sherwin-Williams Extreme Bond primer.
Masking and protection of mechanical and electrical systems were critical components of the scope, ensuring that sensitive equipment remained fully protected throughout the project.
CHALLENGES & SOLUTIONS:
One of the primary challenges involved completing the project in multiple phases within an active industrial facility. The work was coordinated across three connected phases within a single production window, allowing CertaPro to eliminate separate mobilizations while maintaining steady progress and reducing overall project costs for the client.
The warehouse environment also contained numerous sensitive surfaces that required protection during painting. Electrical panels, disconnects, conduit and junction boxes, fire alarm devices, gas lines, and exposed mechanical systems were fully masked before work began to prevent overspray or damage.
Another complexity involved the mixed substrates present throughout the building, including corrugated metal panels, structural steel posts, concrete wall sections, and drywall surfaces in the entry area. Each material required appropriate preparation techniques and coating systems to ensure reliable adhesion and durability. Maintaining consistent color matching across all phases was also critical to achieving a cohesive final appearance throughout the facility.
SPECIAL EQUIPMENT & TECHNIQUES:
The height of the warehouse walls required scissor lift access across the large-bay areas. The customer provided lift access throughout the project, while the crew used ladders to complete detailed work and reach tighter spaces.
Preparation methods included comprehensive surface cleaning, spot scraping, degreasing of contaminated areas, and scuff sanding of glossy surfaces to improve coating adhesion. Sherwin-Williams Extreme Bond primer was applied where necessary to ensure strong bonding across various substrates prior to finish coating.
Project Photos
The interior warehouse areas showed normal wear associated with an active industrial facility. Corrugated metal wall panels, structural steel posts, and lower concrete wall sections had accumulated dust, grime, and cobwebs over time. Several previously painted areas also showed signs of peeling or flaking coatings.

Final Results
The completed project delivered a clean, refreshed interior across the warehouse and entry areas of the facility. Updated coatings improved the appearance of both operational workspaces and customer-facing areas while providing durable protection suited for an industrial environment.
