As a huge dog lover, CertaPro Painters® of Annapolis’ owner, Monica Ingson, has supported the Senior Dog Sanctuary of Maryland (SDS) as a way of giving back to her community. She’s sponsored their events with CertaPro Painters® of Annapolis and now holds a position on their board of directors. Learn more about Monica’s involvement in SDS below:
What are some examples of the volunteer work you have done with the Senior Dog Sanctuary?
In general, with CertaPro, I have been a sponsor of SDS events. We are a sponsor of the Troopers and Tails Golf Tournament. We donate prize baskets to the SDS bingo events. I’ve coordinated online fund raisers, including Touchstone Jewelry and Pampered Chef. We’ll also be sponsoring Puppy Plunge this year in conjunction with SDS.
What led you to taking a position on the Board of Directors?
This was kind of a no brainer. I love dogs. The sanctuary is in my neighborhood, so supporting SDS was a way to support my community. The team at SDS is kind and truly cares about the dogs they rescue. They provide care for dogs which otherwise may be euthanized just because of their age. SDS works to get their dogs adopted, but the dogs can also call the Sanctuary their forever home.
I worked with Board Chair, Ritchie Brooks, for a couple of events and found that he, along with the rest of the staff, have honest hearts for animals. And they’re a lot of fun to work with, too! When Ritchie invited me to join the Board, saying no wasn’t an option.
What’s your favorite thing about working with the Senior Dog Sanctuary?
The dogs! Being on site is one of the most challenging parts of being a board member. It’s hard to leave without bringing one more home.
Also, SDS has a program called Seniors 2 Seniors. They offer free pet food to local residents 55+, free vaccination clinics at the local Senior Centers and discounted veterinary rates when they can. I wholeheartedly agree that no one should have to make the hard choice of caring for a pet or purchasing medicine, groceries, gas, etc. SDS is looking beyond getting senior dogs adopted, they make sure the dogs and their owners are cared for.
