CertaPro Painters of Akron Restores Historic Old Church on the Green

In October, our team at CertaPro Painters® of Akron revived a cherished local landmark on the National Historic Registry, The Old Church on the Green.
Hudson residents have long admired the Old Church on the Green, but over the years, weather and time have taken their toll as the last major repaint occurred in the early 1970s. Working pro bono, we decided to paint the building’s exterior and get new signage.
“This building is a symbol of our town’s rich history, and as a business owner in Hudson, it felt like it was time to step in and give the Old Church on the Green the facelift it deserves,” said Doug Bowser, owner of CertaPro Painters® of Akron. “Since helping others is one of CertaPro’s core values, it’s an honor to make the building’s appearance match its historical significance and preserve it for future generations.”
The church, which dates back to 1860, has stood proudly on the town square, witnessing generations of Hudson residents and visitors. Though it was originally established to serve the Irish Catholic families who came to Hudson to build the railroads in the 1840s, it’s been the home of the Spiritual Life Society, Ohio’s oldest and longest-established yoga and meditation center, since 1978.
“Maintaining a building that is over 160 years old is no small task, especially for our small interfaith community,” said Larry Terkel, founder and president of the Spiritual Life Society. “When someone from CertaPro saw us struggling to repair and paint the trim on the windows, they stopped by and offered to paint the rest for us. We do our best to keep the building a shining example of the historical legacy Hudson enjoys and are overwhelmed by CertaPro’s generosity and compassion.”
Thanks to CertaPro Painters® of Akron, the Spiritual Life Society can focus on fundraising for its next project: restoring and protecting the stained glass windows.
