A Flawless Paint Finish Starts with the Wall Itself

A fresh coat of paint can transform a room, but only if the surface underneath is smooth, clean, and properly prepared. Cracks, holes, dents, and water damage won’t disappear under paint. They’ll show through it. As part of our painting process, CertaPro Painters of Woodbridge, VA includes drywall repair, ensuring that every surface we paint is properly prepped so that we can deliver clean, lasting results.

Our Drywall Repair Process

  1. Assessment & Identification: Before any repair work begins, we thoroughly assess your walls and ceilings for cracks, holes, dents, nail pops, water stains, and any areas where drywall compound has failed and separated.
  2. Repair & Patching: Depending on the size and nature of the damage, our team will apply the appropriate repair method, such as simply spackling for minor dings and nail holes to mesh patching and joint compound for larger areas. Every repair is feathered and blended carefully into the surrounding surfaces so that it appears seamless.
  3. Sanding & Smoothing: Once repairs have fully dried, surfaces are sanded smooth to ensure a consistent texture across the entire wall. This attention to detail makes all the difference.
  4. Priming: Repaired areas are primed before painting to seal the surface and ensure uniform paint absorption. Skipping this step is one of the most common reasons patched areas flash or appear different from other painted areas of the wall.
  5. Paint Application: With repairs completed and primed, the wall is ready to accept its new paint finish. The entire process is managed by one team with one standard of quality.

Great experience across the board from start to finish. One of the best home improvement investments we have made. Superior workmanship and support on a very challenging project. We will always use CertaPro painters from this point forward. Can’t say enough about Damien and his whole team - first class!

Common Types of Drywall Damage We Repair

No two walls are exactly the same, meaning their damage is never the same. Here are some of the most common issues our crews encounter and address as part of the painting process:

  • Nail & Screw Holes: One of the most frequent repairs in any home. If left unfilled, these small depressions create noticeable shadows under fresh paint.
  • Hairline Cracks: Common in older Woodbridge homes as houses settle over time. While often minor on the surface, hairline cracks should be filled and primed before painting so that they don’t reappear.
  • Larger Impact Holes: Doorknob impacts, accidental punctures, and other larger holes require mesh patching or backing support before compound can be applied.
  • Nail Pops: When drywall nails or screws come back out from the stud, they create raised bumps or cracked circles on the wall surface. We re-secure that fastener, fill the area, and sand it before painting.
  • Water Damage & Stains: Water-damaged drywall requires more than a coat of paint to fix. We assess the extent of the damage, make repairs, and then apply a stain-blocking primer to prevent bleed-through before the paint goes on.
  • Scuffs, Dings, & Surface Wear: Years of everyday living leave walls with accumulated scuffs, dents, and worn areas, especially in high-traffic areas.
