As we near the end of October the fall weather is starting to set in here in Western New York. Once the cold fully sets in we will shift to mostly doing interior painting projects until the spring season starts. Fall & winter can be a great time of year to get projects done, its still a good time of year for interior painting projects. This article covers some common interior painting projects to our service area of the greater Buffalo, NY area.

Interior Walls & Accent Walls

One of the simplest ways to add character to an area is by adding an accent wall to the room. Accent walls open up dozens of creative options and can serve to spruce up an otherwise plain looking room. Some homeowners choose to keep accent walls simple with a color slightly darker than the current room’s color. A dramatic color change on one wall can also serve as an easy way to dramatically change the look and feel of a room.

Painted Interior Brick Walls

Many homes in our service area have some type of brick feature on the interior. Most commonly we see brick fireplaces, but we also see homes with full interior brick wall on occasion. Painting brick offers a quick way to brighten up a room, having a fireplace or brick wall painted white gives a modern and clean look. Another popular color choice for brick surfaces is gray, which gives a muted tone that does a better job at hiding dirt on the surface than white. Painted brick surfaces will need to be occasionally cleaned, and the paint is permanent.

Update Your Kitchen Cabinets

In our service area of WNY, there are many homes with high quality cabinetry that has an out of date look. The woodwork and construction of the cabinets are good, but owners are looking for a way to modernize the kitchen without a full cabinet replacement. A cabinet painting / restoration project can go a long way to transform a kitchen at a lower cost than full cabinet replacement. While a white kitchen is still very fresh and trendy, a pop of color like navy can be a nice eye-catching option as well.

Trim & Molding

Trim and molding on home interiors is often neglected and shows signs of wear or color fading. Adding a new coat of paint to trim does a great job at improving the look of a room. If you have sections of broken or chipped trim, this is also a good time to replace or repair damaged wood.

Paint the Bedrooms

It’s not uncommon for homeowners to focus in on the primary living areas when budgeting a painting project, areas like the dining room, living room, and hallways. Sometimes bedrooms are left behind and end up with a dated look when compared to the rest of the home. Using the fall and winter season to tie up any loose ends or bedrooms in the home is a great opportunity to complete a partial interior project from a previous year.
