Preserving History With Paint
Posted on May 25, 2021
CertaPro Painters® of Western North Texas was given an opportunity to paint for the historical Fant Home, built originally by banker W.S. Fant in 1890. It was also the childhood home of Mary Martin, the famous actress, singer, and Broadway star. The house features a raised front wrap-around porch from the left, wainscoting, and hardwood flooring.
Kevin and Melinda Garman insisted on using local companies to complete the work and went above and beyond to ensure that everything was an exact replica of the original. Our company won the painting bid and Gerald and his crew met with the owners to discuss the unique challenges of the project.
Here is a recap of the project in Gerald’s words:
“We painted the entire exterior as well as the detached garage. We replaced some rotting wood and had to do some mortar work on the stones around the base of the porch. The owner had a specialist come in and replace the rotted upright 6×6 posts supporting the front porch roof, then we painted all the new wood.
We also painted the entire interior of the house. There was a wall-sized bookcase that we painted blue. We also made some minor needed repairs along the way.”
We were on the job for about 30 days and used one two-man crew. We had to return to paint the new post and steps after replacement.
