Description of Project: The challenge was presented by a deck that had never been stained and suffered from severe dryness. Our team embarked on a journey to restore the deck’s beauty and functionality. The project involved thorough power washing, extensive crack filling with MinWax Stainable Wood Filler, and the application of two coats of Sherwin-Williams SuperDeck Solid Stain in SW3007 Lodge Brown.
What did the project involve? The deck’s restoration was marked by meticulous attention to detail. The initial step involved power washing the surface to cleanse years of accumulated grime and prepare the wood for treatment. Recognizing the extensive dryness and the resultant large cracks, we opted for MinWax Stainable Wood Filler to mend these blemishes, ensuring a smooth and even surface. The final flourish was achieved with two layers of Sherwin-Williams SuperDeck Solid Stain, chosen for its durability and the rich, inviting hue of Lodge Brown. This not only enhanced the deck’s aesthetic appeal but also offered a protective barrier against future wear.
Special Challenges: The primary challenge was addressing the wood’s severe dryness and the extensive damage it had caused. The meticulous crack-filling process required precision and patience, ensuring that the filler blended seamlessly with the natural wood, maintaining its stainability. Additionally, the timing of the drying phase post-power washing was crucial to the project’s success, demanding close monitoring to achieve the perfect balance for optimal stain application.
Special Techniques: A key technique employed in this restoration was the strategic use of MinWax Stainable Wood Filler, enabling us to repair the cracks effectively while keeping the surface compatible with staining. The application of two coats of Sherwin-Williams SuperDeck Solid Stain was performed with precision, ensuring thorough coverage and uniformity, thus reviving the deck’s appearance and resilience.
