Extreme weather can have a negative effect on the exterior of your home. Whether you are experiencing extreme snowy conditions, extreme cold and warmups, extreme heat, or just a lot of moisture… These can all take a toll on your home. If you are in a location that experiences freezing temps, check your sump pump, if you have one. Freezing temperatures are likely to cause obstructions within the pipe. This leads to interior problems such as leaks and mold within your house. Once water from outside gets into your heated house mold is going to have a place to thrive. No one wants to deal with a mold issue… so be sure to actively check on this so you can fix this potential problem before it causes headaches.
If you are dealing with a lot of ice, and have a lot of trees on your property, beware! Ice easily can split trees in half. Or, the weight of snow can send large branches crashing down. It may seem tedious but checking around your property to ensure your trees are upholding through the weather conditions can save you more time and money later down the road. Aside from tree damage, ice can also cause issues to your home’s foundation.
Subsidence is defined as the gradual caving in or sinking of land. It usually occurs after periods of extremely hot and dry weather. It is also more likely to be an issue if you live in an area that consists of clay soil. Moisture expands the ground, then the ground contacts once it is dried out which causes the caving or sinking of the land. If you live in an area where this may be an issue, check your home for cracks in the walls, for this is the main sign.
