Painting kitchen cabinets can result in a beautiful new look to your home and kitchen when done properly using the proper materials. Taking your wood stained cabinets to a beautiful painted surface is not a matter of just slapping some paint on them and calling it a day. With many years of experience, we have discovered the following process to work best.
At CertaPro Painters of Summerlin, we will remove all doors, drawer fronts and hardware on the cabinets. A spray booth will be erected in the garage and both sides of the doors and drawer fronts will receive a prime coat using Sherwin Williams Extreme Bond Primer, and two finish coats of Emerald Urethane Enamel via spray application, with necessary scuff sanding between coats. All other surfaces will receive a prime coat and two finish coats via brushing and rolling as is appropriate for the area. All doors, drawer fronts, and hardware will be re-installed after drying. This process will likely take around 3 days.
The cost for painting your cabinets will vary depending on the size of your kitchen, as well as the condition of the cabinets (age, type of wood, previous staining, etc.). Because of these variables, the average cost to paint your stained kitchen cabinets starts at $4,500 and can go up from there. Here are a few items to consider when painting your cabinet:
- Are your cabinets real wood or do they have a venire surface? If the cabinets are not real wood, you will likely have issues with the paint adhering to the surface therefore scratching and chipping will be common.
- The cost to replace your cabinets can be 2 to 5 times more expensive than painting. In order to replace your cabinets, you will have to not only pay for the new cabinets but the removal of the old ones, the installation of the new ones and the installation of the countertop.
