Posted on April 11, 2020

A brick wall adds a certain unique character to your home. It goes with pretty much any style and adds instant charm. Just because your home didn’t come with an exposed brick wall doesn’t mean you can’t still create this look. If you love the look of an exposed brick wall in a home but you don’t have one in your home, you can easily DIY one. Your guests will never know it’s not the real deal. Keep reading to find out how to DIY the perfect Faux Brick Wall.

What you will need:

  • A bucket of Joint Compound – $15 at Home Depot
  • Trowel – $5 at Home Depot
  • Level – $3.18 at Home Depot
  • Paint Brush and Paint

The Process:

First, you must spread the joint compound onto the wall. Work in small sections so that it doesn’t dry too quickly. After you have applied the joint compound to the wall, you will then smooth it out with the trowel. It is okay if it is not perfectly smooth because the uneven texture will make it look more like real brick. Next, using the level as a guide, draw the lines of the bricks with your fingers or tool of your choice. Doing the horizontal lines first and then the vertical is the best option. Let it dry overnight and when you wake up, the color of the joint compound will appear a white shade. You can leave it white however there is some painting you should do to make it look more realistic.

You can paint the “grout lines” a light shade of gray. You can then use this same paint color along with a mix of other paint colors to brush over the “bricks” this will give the wall a distressed look that tends to look more authentic.
