SuperPaint, Resilience, and Duration – Good, Better, and Best

Posted on April 5, 2019

SuperPaint, Resilience, and Duration are all considered premium products from Sherwin Williams. On a spectrum, SuperPaint is good, Resilience is better, and Duration is the best. SuperPaint has Sherwin Williams’ Advanced Acrylic Resin technology; Resilience has the Moisture Guard Technology, making it a great summer paint (especially in the Ohio Valley region); and Duration is an architectural coating.

Vicki Waterbury and Lee Sapata compared exterior products from Sherwin Williams in this short video below:

All three exterior products are mildew resistant, can be tinted in Vinyl Safe colors, and boast lifetime limited warranties.

Lee: Hi, my name is Lee Sapata and I’m with CertaPro Painters. And with me today is Vicki Waterbury, also with CertaPro Painters. I’m sorry, I had a senior moment there.

Vicki: It’s okay, it’s okay.

Lee: Vicki, what do we have in front of us this morning?

Vicki: We have some exterior products from Sherwin-Williams. This one is Duration, we have Resilience and we have SuperPaint.

Lee: Interesting. So three exterior products, all with Sherwin-Williams. And what do you know about, let’s start with this one. What’s this one?

Vicki: Resilience is a great product. It has a high moisture technology to it, so if a pop-up shower were to happen, if it’s been within an hour, this paint will be safe on that house. So it’s a very go-to product in spring and summer weather, especially around here, when we not for sure if there’s gonna be a storm or not throughout later in the day.

Lee: So this would be what hard guys would call a summer paint maybe?

Vicki: Sure.

Lee: So that’s a summer paint.

Vicki: Yes.

Lee: And it’s a good product?

Vicki: Great product.

Lee: Awesome, awesome. So if this is a great product, is this one better?

Vicki: It can be considered better. It’s another exceptional product. It’s actually coating, not a paint.

Lee: Really? A coating.

Vicki: Yes.

Lee: So what makes it a coating?

Vicki: The thickness. It’s a higher thickness that goes on than Resilience, and even SuperPaint. So it lasts longer and it has great color retention and gloss retention.

Lee: Wow. Okay. So Duration is better than Resilience?

Vicki: It can be considered that.

Lee: So what do I have in front of me here?

Vicki: That is SuperPaint. It’s a very good paint. You can use it in different common areas.

Lee: Different common areas. So would that make this kind of a general type application product?

Vicki: Yes. [inaudible 00:02:11.771]

Lee: So if I were to look at all three, this is my general product, this is more my all-purpose heavy duty product.

Vicki: It’s a high-end product, yes.

Lee: And then, this is not a middle of the road product but a high end product for early moisture type application?

Vicki: Yes.

Lee: So this would make this one good, this one better and this one best?

Vicki: That’s how we classify it. SuperPaint does come 15-year warranty. These two both have a limited lifetime warranty on both these two types of paints.

Lee: Really?

Vicki: Yes.

Lee: Fifteen years lifetime.

Vicki: Yes.

Lee: Good, better, best.

Vicki: Yes.

Lee: So if you were a betting person, what would you choose?

Vicki: What would I choose? It depends on a situation and what the surface of the house or the building is.

Lee: Okay. Well, that’s good to know too.

Vicki: Yes, it’s a lot.

Lee: And then, are they self-primed because I hear a lot of that when you go to Lowe’s and Home Depot, you know, those big box stores. They talk about self-priming products.

Vicki: Right.

Lee: What are your thoughts and how do these compare?

Vicki: I’d say this is closer to the self-priming of any of them. It is self-priming except for on masonry surfaces. I would suggest a Loxon primer before putting a coat of this on bare masonry surfaces. A painted surface, this can go on a lot easier. As long as the surface, again, the substrate is in good condition.

Lee: Okay. So you gotta kinda look at the application, figure out the condition of the application, and if the conditions are right, you may be able to use this one…

Vicki: By itself, yes.

Lee: …by itself. And this one then, I would need a primer?

Vicki: Yes.

Lee: And this one…

Vicki: Also we would need a primer.

Lee: You also need a primer.

Vicki: Yes. Separate.

Lee: Good to know. Good to know. Is there anything else that would be good to know? Any differentiators that you’re aware of between the three?

Vicki: No, not that I can think of. I think they’re all great products from Sherwin-Williams.

Lee: Well, there you have it. We’ve got Duration, we’ve got Resilience, we have SuperPaint all from Sherwin-Williams. We are from CertaPro, this is Vicki, I’m Lee, and you liked our video, please subscribe to our channel or visit us on the web. Have a great day.
