The study by Sleep Junkie surveyed more than 1,000 Americans to discover that yellow, brown, and beige are the three worst colors for your bedroom.

Psychologist and Wellbeing Consultant Lee Chambers says, “When it comes to our sleep settings, color may play a part in how aroused we are and how we feel when we turn the lights down to sleep.” While yellow hues have a happy connotation, he argues that these tones are as powerful and will inspire your imagination to keep working while you’re attempting to relax.
Lee adds that prolonged exposure to these tones can ‘create feelings of irritation and anxiety. ‘This can impact sleep quality and quantity, leaving you feeling less than sunny in the morning,’ he says.
Purple and blue were shown to be the hues that contribute to the most peaceful night’s sleep in the study, with just 12% of respondents with purple walls having a terrible night’s sleep.
But, with so many purple room designs to choose from, how can you know which is perfect for your sleep schedule? Lee suggests going for a ‘less bright tone’ that will help you de-stimulate and unwind.
‘Lilac is perfect for promoting a relaxed, serene wind down and a place to feel at peace, no matter how stressful your day has been,’ he says.
Christine Lapp, a sleep specialist, and author, also suggests going with a bluer hue of purple rather than a pinker one.
‘Blue was the second-best paint color for sleep, known for its soothing and calming properties, whereas pink tends to be the color best suited for inducing creativity, exciting the brain, rather than winding it down,’ she explains.
Yes, you may have already purchased the nicest mattress and very comfortable pillows, but your restful night’s sleep may be dependent on the proper color scheme.
