10 Things You Should Know Before Painting A Room

Whether you are hiring professional interior painters or tackling a DIY Painting Project there are important things you should know before you get started. Here are 10 things you should know before you paint a room.

Preparation is Key

Move as much stuff as you can out of the room. Move the larger pieces into the center of the room and cover them with old sheets. If you are hiring professional painters, make sure that they are doing this before they begin the project. Next, fill any imperfections such as holes that may be on the walls and begin taping the window trim, light switches and outlet covers.
Clean!
Even if you can’t see it, the walls are probably covered in dust and oils. Wiping them gets rid of the buildup, which will ultimately make the paint adhere better.

Sample

Even if you think you’ve found the perfect paint color while in the store, it may look differently once you actually see it on the walls of you home. Before committing, get samples and test them on your wall. Give them time to dry to see the true color.

Choose a Finish

The finish of the paint can be just as important as what color you choose. High gloss paints are durable and easy to clean but they will show any imperfections that your walls may have. On the other hand, an eggshell finish is the best way to make everything on the walls blend.

Supplies

If you are completing the painting project yourself, you should make sure you have all of the supplies needed to ensure the painting process goes as smoothly as possible. A ladder, quality paint brush, roller extenders and painters’ tape are some of the essentials!
