Hello! My name is John Bays, I am a commercial estimator for CertaPro Painters of Sacramento.
I was born into an Air Force Family, where I spent the majority of my childhood growing up in the northern and central parts of Virginia. I came to Sacramento in my early teens, I graduated from Cordova Sr High School and spent some time going to Sierra Jr College where I discovered my passion for culinary arts.
I’ve spent the last 30 plus years in the Hospitality industry as a Sacramento based chef. I’ve been an Executive Chef for several downtown restaurants over the years. For a short time, I was the Executive Chef for Sacramento City School District, trying to help reform the school lunch program. A few years later I was offered a part owner position with The Red Rabbit Kitchen and Bar, where I spent the last ten years operating as Executive Chef/Partner. During my time in the hospitality industry, I developed a strong work ethic and learned the importance of dependability, punctuality, Integrity and so much more. Just like with so many others, the COVID pandemic came along and changed everything for me.
During that extended break from the Hospitality industry I decided I wanted to change careers. I had been talking to my friend, Brian Criswell, about his career with CertaPro Painters. I was intrigued and after meeting with Brendan McGagin, I was immediately drawn to their company’s culture and values. I happily joined the team August 1 2022.
In my spare time, I enjoy spending time with my wife Lisa, our son, Jordan and our daughter, Logan. I also enjoy traveling, golfing, and snowboarding..
