Wondering What to do With Your Pet During the Painting Project?
Posted on April 10, 2023
Are you a fur parent? So are we! It’s important to keep your pet safe while painting projects are going on at your home, and we have some safety tips and best practices we wanted to share with you before you have any work done in and around your home! There are several ways in which an interior painting project can affect your pet.
Pet Safety: Interior Painting Project
- Anxiety/Stress. Your pet may experience increased stress and anxiety that stems from having strangers in their space. The constant activity may also create confusion from their typical routine which increases their anxiety.
- Paint quality. There may also be a risk if pets come too close to the can of paint or any wet surfaces their hair may blow into it. If that happens it can easily be seen once the paint dries and will not have a level finish.
- Fumes. There is also the risk of strong fumes, and cats and dogs have more sensitivity to smell so it can affect them more and faster. It’s best to ensure the house has had the proper time to air out prior to bringing them back into the home.
- Accidents. There is always the risk of an accident occurring as well if the pet is loose while people are working around the house. The crew may accidentally trip or fall, or the pet may even get into the supplies or paint which can be harmful to them.
What Can You Do?
The best place to keep your pet safe during the project would be in another room that isn’t being done and where you plan to be as well. They tend to handle situations better when around people they know and trust. This will keep them safe from the fumes as well as the paint and supplies. Also, if you have a fenced-in backyard and the project is for interior work only, they can hang outside during the day while the crew is working. If those options aren’t available, let your pet stay at a family member’s or friend’s house while the service is being completed.
