A project was undertaken to refurbish a 50-year-old water tank utilized for fire-suppression purposes in an industrial warehouse. The tank, standing at 30 feet in height and capable of holding tens of thousands of gallons of water, exhibited significant deterioration including coating failure, rust, and algae buildup.
The project involved aggressive pressure washing to eliminate failed coatings and loose rust, followed by the application of a full prime and two finish coats. Special equipment, namely an articulating boom lift, was utilized to ensure complete access to all sides and the top of the tank.
Additionally, SW KemKromik primer was employed to address potential future oxidation issues, with the top coat provided by SW.

CHALLENGES:
In July of 2023 we painted a 30′ water tank that was used to house water for a warehouses fire-suppression system. We stripped it of old coatings, rust, algae and dirt, brining it back to life with a fresh coat of paint.
We had to use an articulating boom lift in order to access the top and sides of the large tank.
CONDITIONS:
- Significant coating failure, oxidation & algae buildup
- Associated fire hydrants showed similar degradation.
- Power washing was necessary before work could begin.
PROJECT INVOLVEMENT:
- Full prime and 2 full finish coats.
- Power washing prior to complete repainting.

THE FINAL RESULTS
After completion we walked around the building and took photos of each area of concern that were noted at the beginning of the project. The once failing surfaces look brand new again.
