Residential Staircase Painting Case Study

PROJECT INVOLVEMENT

In April 2026, CertaPro Painters® of Roanoke, VA completed a residential painting project for a home in Roanoke, VA. As part of this interior painting project, our team refreshed the home’s staircase, where the risers and surrounding trim showed normal wear and tear from everyday use, including activity from children and pets.

To prepare the area, our team scraped away any loose or peeling paint, replaced failing caulk, and spot primed surfaces where needed to ensure proper adhesion. Per the customer’s preference, the wire located at the top of the stairs was painted to blend with the finished space. Once preparation was complete, we painted the risers and baseboards using Sherwin-Williams Emerald Urethane Semi-Gloss in Behr Nature’s Gift N410-4.

CHALLENGES

Tinted Emerald Urethane can be more difficult to apply than standard coatings, requiring extra attention to achieve a smooth, even finish.

PROJECT TIMELINE

The project was completed in less than one day.

THE FINAL RESULTS

The staircase was transformed with a fresh new color that adds personality and charm to the home. The updated risers and trim create a clean, cohesive look while complementing the natural wood stair treads. See the photos of the results below!
