Residential Interior Painting Case Study
PROJECT INVOLVEMENT
In December 2024, CertaPro Painters® of Roanoke, VA, completed a comprehensive interior painting project for a home in Blacksburg, VA, covering three bedrooms, a bathroom, kitchen, stairwells, and living room. The surfaces were in poor condition, with stress cracks, peeling, and faded paint, and the homeowner also requested wallpaper removal in the bathroom.
Our team began by scraping loose paint, filling nail holes, and replacing damaged caulk, followed by spot priming. In the bathroom, they removed the wallpaper, repaired defects, skimmed, sanded, and applied an oil-based primer. They also repaired stress cracks and corner beads in the kitchen and living room before proceeding with the painting. Our crew then primed and painted the walls in all areas, including the ceilings in the kitchen, living room, bathroom, and stairwells, along with the stairwell window frame and two smaller bedroom closets.
CHALLENGES
One of the primary challenges in this project was addressing the stress cracks throughout the home. These cracks required detailed repair work using joint compound or spackling paste. For larger cracks, we opted for plaster repair or wood filler. Using a putty knife, we applied the filler, pressed it into the cracks, and smoothed it out to be level with the surface. For drywall and plaster cracks, we used a specialized drywall compound. After drying, we primed and painted the repaired areas, ensuring a smooth and seamless finish.
PROJECT TIMELINE
The project was completed in 2 days.
