Office & Living Room Painting Case Study

PROJECT INVOLVEMENT
In November 2024, CertaPro Painters® of Roanoke, VA, refreshed the living room and office space of a home in Roanoke. Prior to painting, the walls and surfaces had faded, chipped paint, and uneven lines, and the homeowner wanted a modern, vibrant update. The project included prep work like caulking, filling cracks, scuff sanding, sealing stains, priming, and painting with Sherwin Williams’ “In the Navy.”
A critical part of the prep work was scuff sanding. This process involves lightly sanding the surfaces with fine-grit sandpaper or a sanding pad to create a textured finish that improves paint adhesion. While scuff sanding doesn’t remove the old paint entirely, it ensures the new coat of paint or primer bonds more effectively.
CHALLENGES
The primary challenge was the complete color change of the fireplace in the living room and the office. The office shifted from green to navy, and the fireplace changed from off-white to navy. Our crew overcame this challenge by effectively scuff sanding and priming to ensure the darker navy blue seamlessly covered the previous colors without any bleeding.
PROJECT TIMELINE
The project was completed in less than 2 days.
THE FINAL RESULTS
The new colors completely modernized the interior, giving the home a stylish new appearance. The client was very pleased with the results! See the before and after pictures below.
