Moneta Residential Exterior Painting Case Study

PROJECT INVOLVEMENT

In November 2024, CertaPro Painters® of Roanoke, VA, repainted the exterior of a home in Moneta. The previous coat of paint had faded and chipped, with signs of wood rot and blistering caused by moisture.

Our team caulked gaps and cracks, pressure washed, scraped off loose paint, and spot-primed bare wood. We carefully caulked the large windows facing the deck and the seams of the white decorative soffit trusses. We painted all window frames, fascia, porch trim, trusses, railings, doors, and door frames with Sherwin Williams SuperPaint in white gloss, while staining the siding and soffits with Sherwin Williams Woodscapes Solid Stain in SW3025 Caribou. The interior windows facing the deck were also scraped, caulked, and painted with SuperPaint gloss.

A special technique used during this project involved presoaking the gutters with Krud Kutter, a biodegradable and non-toxic cleaner that breaks down grime, making it easier to wash and prepare for painting. We rely on this product for its safety around plants and animals when used as directed.

CHALLENGES

During our prep work, we pressure washed the exterior to ensure the surfaces were thoroughly clean. However, we faced the challenge of soft washing around the windows to protect the seals from potential damage. Our team carefully adjusted the pressure and technique in these areas, using a gentler approach to ensure the windows were cleaned effectively without compromising their integrity.
