Exterior House Painting Case Study

PROJECT INVOLVEMENT
In August 2024, a customer reached out to CertaPro Painters® of Roanoke, VA, to update the exterior of their house. Prior to painting, the exterior colors were faded, chipped, and peeling. The project included essential services such as foundation repair, soft power washing, scraping, spot priming, and painting. While this was not a dramatic color change, it was a significant exterior project completed in accordance with EPA guidelines, resulting in a beautifully refreshed appearance.

CHALLENGES:
This project needed an EPA Lead Certified paint crew to handle the job. Safety is crucial when working with lead in residential areas, so our team implemented several precautions before starting to ensure everyone’s well-being. This project did require the use of specialized techniques and equipment. Before the painting crew arrives, a visual inspection and lead assessment was conducted. A containment zone was established using plastic sheeting, sealing windows and doors, and marking exclusion areas. The team wore PPE during the work and followed lead-safe practices, such as wet sanding instead of power sanding. After completing the job, the team used a HEPA (High-Efficiency Particulate Air) vacuum to remove all debris and dust from the area. Finally, all lead-contaminated materials, including disposable PPE, plastic sheeting, and cleaning supplies, were disposed of properly according to EPA regulations.

PROJECT TIMELINE
The project took place in August 2024 and was completed in 7 days.
