Airport Interior Painting Project

In November 2024, CertaPro Painters® of Roanoke, VA, was tasked with completing an interior painting project for a local airport. The walls exhibited peeling, chipping, and faded paint, and the wallpaper on the outer wall of the baggage claim area was damaged. Additionally, several pieces of hardware, including a TV bracket, an information board holder, a wall-mounted telephone, and a wall-mounted counter, had caused damage to the walls. Further issues were discovered behind the wallpaper, including damage from mounts and brackets and a compromised access point behind the telephone wall mount.

This job involved our team repairing the damaged walls and performing skim coating where necessary. Skim coating involves applying joint compound, smoothing the surface, allowing it to dry, sanding between coats, and repeating as needed. Afterward, we applied an oil-based primer to ensure the wallpaper glue wouldn’t reactivate and cause peeling. Once the primer was dry, we painted the walls with Sherwin Williams SuperPaint. The door and door frame were painted with Sherwin Williams Pro-Industrial Enamel Urethane Paint in the color SW7585 Sun Dried Tomato.

The special challenge involved with this project was was completing the work while the airport remained open and busy with travelers. Despite this, CertaPro Painters® of Roanoke is experienced in working around customers and employees, maintaining a safe and clean work environment without disrupting the airport’s daily operations.

The project was completed in just one day, revitalizing the airport’s interior and improving the overall appearance of the space. Check out the transformation in the before and after photos below!
