Recreational Park Painting Project

In June 2025, CertaPro Painters® of Roanoke, VA, completed an exterior restoration and repainting project at a Recreational Park in Roanoke, VA. The park’s shelter and bathroom facility had suffered significant vandalism, with extensive graffiti covering the exterior walls, doors, and partitions. Even the picnic tables had been defaced with permanent marker, carved initials, and other markings, creating an environment that no longer felt safe or welcoming for families and visitors.

Our team took immediate action to restore the space. We began by scraping away any loose or peeling paint and spot priming the affected areas. Tables were lightly scuff-sanded using electric orbital sanders with fine-grit sandpaper to create a proper surface profile, ensuring maximum adhesion for the new coatings.

We primed any bare wood on the tables and yellow arches, and applied Sherwin-Williams Extreme Bond Primer, tinted to a P-3 level, on all graffitied walls, doors, and partitions to effectively block out the vandalism. From there, we repainted the doors, door frames, partitions, and tables using customer-supplied Pro-Industrial Enamel and Emerald Urethane in a semi-gloss finish. The bathroom walls, exterior yellow siding, and signature yellow arches were refreshed with Emerald Satin finish paint.

This project came with several unique challenges. The extensive graffiti required extra prep work and multiple coats of primer to fully conceal markings. Additionally, the worn condition of many surfaces demanded careful scraping and attention to detail during the spot-priming process. The variety of surface types meant different prep methods and paint products were necessary for each material.

As the facility remained open to the public, we had to coordinate work carefully around peak park hours to maintain safety and accessibility. The timeline was also tight—the estimate was completed on a Friday, and our crew was back on-site to begin painting that following Monday.

Despite the complex scope and rapid turnaround, the project was completed quickly and professionally within 2 days by Gabriel’s skilled crew.

The transformation was remarkable. What was once a vandalized and uninviting space is now a clean, vibrant, and welcoming environment for the community. View the before-and-after photos below to see the difference a professional paint job can make!
