The painting professionals at CertaPro Painters® of Roanoke, VA were hired by Lamar Advertising Warehouse in December 2022 to refresh the exterior of their metal building. The building had not been painted in many years and most of the building’s exterior surface had severe oxidation, resulting in a chalky residue and a faded appearance. There were also several areas of rust, particularly along the bottom of the building & doors.

To address these issues, our project began with pressure washing the building thoroughly to ensure we removed as much of the oxidation as possible. We then followed up with scrapping and sanding the rusted areas. Next, we applied a primer that works best on metal surfaces to the entire building. Once the entire surface had been primed, we applied 2 topcoats of Sherwin Williams Super Paint, in satin sheen. The Customer chose to go with “Network Gray” by Sherwin Williams.

This project took 5 days to complete. A large part of our time was spent on much-needed prep work to remove the oxidation and rust. The cold December temperature caused us to begin work at later times of the day so we could allow the surface time to warm up. Metal & concrete surfaces heat up at a much slower rate, and in most cases, these surfaces are around 10 degrees colder than the actual temperature outside.

Overall, the client was impressed with the end results and was excited to see the warehouse receive a much-needed refresh!
