The Client Challenge:

The plaza had faded I-beams in front of multiple retail outlets, stretching about ¼ mile. Each beam was very rusty, with a heavy scale near the bottom. One beam even had a full 3″ hole rusted through entirely. Additionally, the plaza’s customers would be coming and going throughout the project’s duration.

The CertaPro Painters® Solution:

Trainer’s Station reached out to us in August 2021 to update and renew the plaza’s I-beams. Given that it’s a retail space, we had to work in small sections and prep and paint the areas around the entry doors before the stores opened. We also utilized caution tape, safety cones, and wet paint signs to warn the customers of ongoing paintwork.

The rust and scale on the I-beams had to be mechanically removed before being primed, so we used a power stripper/grinder to remove the loose rust. To keep the noise volume for the crew and patrons at a modest level, we used a low noise (dB) Generator. Additionally, our crew leader is a certified welder, so we were able to weld a plate on the beam with the rusted hole.

The Success and Result:

After seven days, our crew was able to complete the project successfully. The store owners were happy that we finished the project quickly, and Trainer’s Station now has I-Beams that are both appealing to the eye and structurally sound.
