Residential Case Study in Plymouth, MI

Nestled in the middle of a desirably, family-friend Plymouth Township neighborhood, this home had not been touched since it was build in the early 1990’s. The dark red brick and faded two-toned aluminum siding needed to catch up with the newly installed, jet-black front and garage door the home owners had installed.

The team power washed the entire home: both the aluminum siding and brick were washed to remove dust, mildew, and debris and prepare these surfaces for paint. Once dried, the brick was sprayed with Sherwin Williams Loxon primer, a brick specific coating. Then the team masked off all windows and doors as necessary and sprayed the aluminum and primed brick with Sherwin Williams Superpaint satin exterior coating in an off-white.

The home owners had recently installed new doors and a lovely new Trex deck before the painting project began. We had to meticulously cover all surfaces, as well as avoid any overspray or drips on the newer shingles. Such a drastic color change requires several coats and lots of paint material. We provided well over 20 gallons of paint and primer for this large project.

A professional paint job comes down to good preparation. Aluminum siding doesn’t require as much prep as, say, wood, but the surface needs to be clean of the chalky dust and debris before paint can adhere. Furthermore, old caulked joints in the trim (often around windows) need to be re-caulked and sealed. Our clean lines on this project are due to taping off with paper and plastic all windows and doors for that crisp look.
