Best Times to Paint Your Home by Region
Posted on May 15, 2019
Taking on the task of painting your home is a big ordeal. Planning the perfect time to begin this undertaking can be the second largest decision. Here are some considerations for the best times to paint your home by region.
Conditions
Paint dry times are directly related to temperature, sunshine and moisture in the air. Clearly, painting during a rainstorm will yield the worst results. Painting in extreme heat or cold is uncomfortable and hard. Normally, depending on your region, the best time of year to paint is spring or fall. Humidity can ruin a perfectly good paint job with streaks and water marks. Wood or mortar can hold dew, giving you a bubbled paint job.
Know your region
Painting months in the deep south or desert can easily roll into the winter, while painting in January in Portland is nearly unheard of. It’s important to pay attention to your area of the country and what the weather typically does in that month. Choose a month where the highs and lows won’t be too far off of each other. You’ll need low humidity and wind as well. Rain chances should be at a minimum.
Planning and rescheduling
The paint you are putting up can last up to 10 years, if it is done right. You don’t want to look at a shoddy paint job because a rain storm moved in on you. Look for several dry days in a row to complete the preparations and paint job. Keeping the weather in mind will save you heartache in the end. Dry days leading up to the paint job are crucial to get your home ready, and dried out before applying your new coats.
Shopping for products
Mother Nature can cooperate with your project, but you might still run into trouble if you don’t shop for the right products to complete the job. There are types of primer, paint and finish that can affect when to paint your home. Your local paint store can help you make good decisions based on the outcome you want.
