A Salon Makeover in Downtown Pittsburgh, PA
Featured Commercial Project
A Salon in a Historic Locale in Pittsburgh
When an upscale beauty salon in Downtown Pittsburgh was ready to give themselves a makeover they turned to the pros at CertaPro of Pittsburgh South Hills. For a company that specializes in giving people a whole new look, they decided to do the same for their salon by replacing a fairly cool white interior with one that featured highlights in the form of accent walls and warm earth tones. The plan created separate spaces within the salon while maintaining flow by using complementary colors.
Salon owners know all too well what damaged hair looks like and at CertaPro we can spot the same damage in an existing paint job. Before painting could begin prep was required to address peeling and chipping paint, chemical stains, dirty walls, and nicked woodwork and baseboards. The goal was to revive and protect a historic space while at the same time creating a more inviting work environment that would appeal to clients as well.
One of the primary considerations before painting is finding the right paint to use for the environment it has to protect. In the case of a high-traffic salon with a lot of movement and the use of harsh chemicals, ordinary interior paint wouldn’t do. The choice was made to use a pre-catalyzed epoxy paint that could be ordered in the desired shades but would also provide chemical and impact resistance with washability.
To create the least amount of disruption the work was done in sections over five days. Covering two floors and 5,000 feet of space, a full team of commercial painters was used to make sure the timeline was tightly adhered to.
In the end, the results were just as hoped for with a more inviting place to visit as a customer, a better work environment, and a building interior with historic details that was protected and preserved for years to come.
Before the Makeover
A lot of off-white spaces were paired with a single dose of color in the form of a maroon accent wall.
After the Project was Completed
The white walls were painted a shade of tan that allowed for white trim to provide detail and a level of visual interest that was lacking before. A warm shade of green replaced the old accent wall color and it tied in smoothly with the tan.
In this photo, you can see where our experts repainted the stairs, hand rails and accent wall. The original red color was especially difficult to repaint.
The original stairwell wall was a deep red, but a simple color change gave this space a whole new look.
