Kitchen Cabinet Painting & Cabinet Restoration in Palos Verdes, CA
Over the past few years we have worked on many kitchens in the South Bay area on cabinet restoration projects. This type of project is fairly involved, but the results can totally transform the look of your kitchen and bring it up to date without the cost of full cabinet replacement. If your cabinets are constructed from quality materials, but have a dated look and feel, or if the exterior is starting to show signs of wear and tear, kitchen cabinet painting and restoration might be a good option for you.
What is involved in a cabinet painting / refinishing project?
The process can vary depending on exactly what you need done. To get a very clear picture of how your project would work, you should set up an appointment with an estimator to get the details of your project. However this following is a good high-level overview of a cabinet painting project usually goes. You can expect a project like this to take a few days, and will generally leave your kitchen non-usable white the project is in progress.
Removing All Doors and Hardware
After meeting with an estimator, you will have sorted out the details of how you want the cabinets to look. Once the team arrives they will begin by dissembling the cabinets into their individual components, doors, shelves, drawers, hardware etc.. will all be removed so they can be prepped and painted off-the-wall.
Surface Prep
Now removed from the cabinets, each surface is prepped, this is a combination of hand sanding, machine sanding, often with multiple stages of varying grit. It will depend on what your current cabinets are like at project start to know how much time will be involved in this phase. Its easier to remove a stain layer than a paint layer. Some cabinets also are easier to prep than others, the detail and style of woodwork can create a lot of variance in your estimate.
Priming / Staining / Painting
Once the prep phase is completed, we begin applying coats of either stain, paint, or primer. Again this is situational, it is dependent on your specific project requirements and an appointment with an estimator will give you a better idea of how your project will work. We use high durability materials on cabinets, these surfaces are going to be interacted with more than other surfaces in your home, and we want the finish to last for a long time. This also means higher sheen’s that allow for easy cleaning, and coats that are durable to impact from getting bumped with dishes, or dropping kitchen utensils.
Hardware Replacement And Selection
Most of these projects involve getting and installing new hardware on the cabinets, this means handles, knobs, rails, and other features. We can work with you to show you some options that we think will compliment your new color scheme. You can also provide us with images or links to hardware you select in advance. A project like this is also a good time to condenser updates to the rails on drawers, if you don’t have magnetic closing drawers and want them, including that in the project is a good option for you.
Kitchen Cabinet Projects in the Area
Below are some samples of projects we completed in the greater Palos Verdes, CA service area. Over the last few years there has been a trend to make kitchens brighter / lighter in color, and white painted cabinets are very popular in the Los Angeles area. White is a safe bet, and is time tested color that will still look good even as trends start to change.
