Sanded & Stained Deck
Commercial Painting Project by CertaPro Painters® of Oswego, IL
Sanded & Stained Deck
Previously stained deck, with new deck boards. Prior staining did not include proper surface preparation – lite sanding to allow the stain to penetrate new and existing boards.
The original stain application did not adhere to the new and existing deck boards due to incomplete surface preparation- ie, power wash is not enough. On previously stained deck boards, its important to remove loose or failing stain and to create a surface with “bite” to allow the new stain application to penetrate the deck boards.
As noted, sanding was needed. This was done using HFT-2 Floor Team Floor Sander (pictured), an exterior use deck sander. The use of the sander allowed for the creation of an abrasive profile on the deck allowing for proper penetration of the stain into the wood.
Last Spring, early summer, the weather was a significant limiter. While the project itself was completed in less than two days, rain delays extended the actual start to completion time. At CertaPro, we worked with our customers to explain any weather delays and targeted start dates.
An HTF-2 Floor Team Floor Sander was used to prepare the deck boards- new and existing. In addition, application of a dark base Sherwin-Williams, Woodscapes Solid Stain eliminated any tone difference in the colors on newer vs. existing deck boards.
This was a previous customer project. In fact, prior customers are our number one lead source!
