Large Distribution Center Painting Project
Located in Ottawa, Illinois, PetSmart’s Distribution Center is a 100,000 square foot facility, making it the largest building in LaSalle county. The center’s main function is to distribute all of their items to the PetSmart stores in the Midwest region. Before this exterior job commenced in August 2018, the building was predominantly in good structural condition, aside from some minor cracks and gaps that were in need of repair.
This job began with a power washing of all sides of the exterior of the building with a non-phosphate, environmentally friendly cleaning solution. After this was completed, our team filled cracks, caulked gaps, and spot primed exposed metal with the rust inhibiting Sherwin-Williams Kem Bond primer. In addition, the west side of the distribution center’s building had excessive effloresce, which led us to recommend using Sherwin-Williams Loxon XP. This job required special equipment to complete the project, such as lifts, industrial sprayers, and on site generators.
The weather proved to be this job’s greatest difficulty. Since it was an exterior project that took place during the very wet August and September of 2018, there were many limitations as to when our team could complete work. Since the facility is an operating center, we faced the additional challenge of coordinating the logistics for access to certain areas of the building. We addressed these challenges by working on weekends and coordinating our movements with yard manager.
PetSmart’s Distribution Center appreciated the way our team dealt with these impediments. They also mentioned that they were very pleased with the entire project, and would refer us to anyone, anytime.
