Deck Restaining Project in Oswego, IL
Our prior customer contacted CertaPro Painters of Oswego concerning the condition of his deck stain. Our customer had the deck built the year before by a general contractor who also stained the deck after installing. The following year the deck stain began to fail. After inspecting the deck, we determined sanding the deck to remove the failing stain and to prepare the surface to properly accept the new coating was necessary.
The original staining had been completed without properly preparing the deck to accept the stain. As a result, the original stain was “sitting” on the surface of the new smooth deck boards and did not penetrate the wood to allow for proper adhesion.
CHALLENGES:

The original staining had been completed without properly preparing the deck. As a result, the original stain was “sitting” on the surface of the new smooth deck boards and did not penetrate the wood for proper adhesion.
A light sanding of the deck and the handrails was necessary for the new stain to adhere. We sanded the handrails with a hand-held orbital sander. The deck boards were sanded using a weighted exterior sander. CertaPro owns such a machine that eliminates additional rental costs or equipment acquisition delays.
CONDITIONS:
The previous stain was failing and needed to be removed before a new coating could be applied.
PROJECT INVOLVEMENT:
- Sanding of the entire structure using weighted deck sander.
- Application of a new stain.
