How You Can Prep for Your Interior or Exterior Painting Project
Posted on September 19, 2022
If you are getting the interior and/or exterior of your home painted, there are a few things you can do to ensure that the project goes as smoothly as possible. At CertaPro Painters® of Orland Park, we highly encourage our customers to do some light prep work before we begin. After that, you can let our professional painters to the handle the painting and clean-up.
When it comes to an interior painting project, here is how you can prepare:
- Remove any small or fragile objects, wall decorations, drapes, blinds, etc. If you are removing wall art, you can leave the nails in the walls if you are planning to re-hand your pictures in the same spot. Otherwise, remove any unwanted nails so the holes can be filled during the painting process. If a bookcase or closet is going to be painted, make sure you empty them of their contents.
- Discuss window treatments and switch plates ahead of time. Let the foreman know if you are going to re-hang your window treatments or if you are planning on replacing them. With a plan in place, the painting crew will know if they should leave brackets in the wall or if they should remove them and spackle where they were. When it comes to light switches, let us know if you plan on keeping their switch plates or if you are replacing those as well.
- Keep your pets out of the workspace. Pets can easily bump into a painted wall or kick up dirt and grime, which can ruin any trim painting we may do. Additionally, this will make sure your pet doesn’t receive a new paint job.
At the end of each day of your interior painting project, we will do a surface clean-up of the painting space so that you are able to access your rooms. Following the completion of your project, we perform a thorough clean-up. As a warning, any spackling or sanding that is required may kick up a good amount of dust. That being said, we try our best to get rid of these particles during our final clean-up, but you may find more dust than normal when we leave. Our painters try our best to leave your interior as spotless as possible.
When it comes to your exterior painting project, here is how you can prepare:
- Keep windows and doors closed. This way, we won’t soak the inside of your house when power washing your exterior.
- Check your bushes and shrubs to see if they may get in the way. Pruning bushes and shrubs can help the painters gain easier access to any project areas. Additionally, our painters aren’t allowed to trim these for you, so trimming them beforehand will really help!
- Move your car away from the painting space. Make sure your vehicle is not near the work space as it may get in the way when it comes to power washing or the actual painting.
We clean-up the project area daily, including putting away any cloths, tools, or ladders that are used when painting your home.
