Residential Case Study
Calvert Vaux House
The Property:
In July 2022, the owners of a mansion in the East End Historic District of Newburgh, NY, reached out to us looking for exterior painting and light carpentry services. The East End Historic District is a historically and architecturally significant area full of historic buildings and sites which chronicle the development of the City of Newburgh throughout the mid-1700s to the mid-1930s.
This project was special as the estate was built in 1857 and designed by renowned architect Calvert Vaux.
The Client Challenge:
The mansion was experiencing faded paint on its exterior as well as rotted and missing wood. Its original soffits and Yankee-style gutters were also deteriorated and required repair. Lastly, the paint needed to match the original colors due to the building’s historical nature.
The CertaPro Painters® Solution:
To restore the mansion’s appearance, we scraped the old paint from the home’s exterior, replaced the rotting wood, primed the surfaces, and applied a fresh coat of paint. We also used custom fabrication to match the replacement soffits to the originals.
The Success & Result:
Our team completed the project in three weeks. The owners were pleased with our work from beginning to end, and we were excited to be a part of this historical property restoration.
