The Client:

Christ Episcopal Church has stood at the corner of Second and South Streets in Warwick, NY for over 150 years. The cornerstone was laid on July 17, 1866, and the “carpenter gothic” church was completed in December of the same year. In 1905, the church was remodeled and electricity was installed.

The Client Challenge:

By the 2000s, the plaster wall and ceiling surfaces of the church had started to badly deteriorate. The church came to us in February 2024 looking to have the plaster wall and ceiling surfaces restored, which would require removing all of the old plaster and lathe to replace with sheet rock.

The CertaPro Painters® Solution:

The project took two weeks for the set-up of multi-level scaffolding and removal of 3000 sq ft. of old plaster which was hand-carried down the scaffolding. This included the setup of systems scaffold to create a stable platform and pipe scaffolds on platform to access the ceiling. Workers also were required to don forced air ventilating respirator systems during the removal of the plaster due to excessive dust & debris which had accumulated this over a century.  We then spent two weeks carrying out carpentry and sheet rocking replacing the old plaster and lathe with sheet rock. The final two weeks of the project were spent on painting and finishing.

The Success and Result:

After 6 weeks, the final result was a rejuvenated church, both in look and durability.
