Color Certainty: Colors We’ve Used, Tested, and Trust After 25 years in Business
Posted on March 16, 2026
Introducing Color Certainty—a blog series featuring the Sherwin-Williams paint colors our team has relied on for more than 25 years. After painting thousands of homes, we’ve seen which colors truly work in real spaces, under real lighting conditions, and across different styles of homes.
These are the shades we come back to again and again because they consistently deliver beautiful, dependable results.
Color Certainty #1: Alabaster
Alabaster by Sherwin‑Williams is the white we’ve used more than any other over the past 25 years. It’s a soft, warm white with subtle yellow and beige undertones that make it incredibly versatile.
This shade works beautifully on ceilings, trim, cabinets, walls, and even exterior surfaces. One reason it’s so popular is that it performs well in a wide range of lighting conditions and tends to stay consistent throughout the home.
The only situation where it may require extra consideration is in spaces with very little natural light. Otherwise, it’s one of the safest and most reliable white paint choices available.
After decades of painting homes, Alabaster remains one of our go-to starting points for clients looking for a warm, timeless white.
Warm. Soft. Dependable.
Color Certainty #2: Iron Ore
If you’re looking for a bold, dramatic color, Iron Ore from Sherwin‑Williams is one of our favorite “almost black” shades.
This deep charcoal color adds contrast and depth without feeling overly harsh or heavy. It creates a striking look while still maintaining a sense of balance in a space.
We frequently recommend Iron Ore for:
Exterior accents
Front doors
Kitchen cabinets
Statement walls
It’s dark, rich, and reliable—a color we’ve trusted for years because it consistently delivers strong visual impact.
Color Certainty #3: Accessible Beige
Accessible Beige by Sherwin‑Williams proves that beige can still be modern and stylish.
Finding the right beige can be tricky, but this one strikes a great balance. It’s a warm greige that avoids the heavy yellow tones many traditional beiges have.
Right now, it’s one of the most frequently installed light-to-midtone neutrals we use in homes. It’s versatile enough to work in many spaces while still adding warmth and depth.
It’s also a personal favorite—it’s the color used on my own cabinets and throughout my mom’s home.
Color Certainty #4: Evergreen Fog
Green has become increasingly popular in home design, but not every green stands the test of time.
Evergreen Fog from Sherwin‑Williams—named Color of the Year in 2022—offers a perfect balance of color and neutrality.
With a soft gray undertone and a mid-tone depth (LRV of 30), it behaves almost like a neutral while still bringing character to a space.
We’ve used Evergreen Fog in several Omaha homes on:
Bedroom walls
Mudroom cabinetry
Kitchen cabinets
The result is always the same: a calm, elevated, and timeless feel. If you’re considering a green tone that won’t feel trendy or dated in a few years, this is a strong option.
Color Certainty #5: Sherwin-Williams Pure White
Pure White by Sherwin‑Williams is one of the most versatile whites available.
It’s crisp and clean without feeling overly stark, making it a great choice for both modern and traditional homes.
Pure White works well for:
Trim and molding
Cabinets
Whole-room wall color
Exterior paint projects
If you’re looking for a bright white that still feels soft and approachable, Pure White is an excellent choice.
